Parent Getaway to Diamond Mills in Saugerties NY

Parents need time together without the children whether it’s a couple of hours for a nice dinner or a full night away. A perfect option is a parent getaway to Diamond Mills in Saugerties NY. Parents can either have a couple of hours at the Tavern or a full night at the hotel or they can have it all! The Hotel-

When we first arrived, we were greeted by very friendly staff. Check-in went smoothly as we were able to fill out all the paperwork beforehand. Make sure your mask is on as it is mandatory in all public parts of the hotel except when seated at your table or in your room. I noticed that one staff member was busy sanitizing the room key while we stood there.

The lobby is very cozy and inviting with little touches everywhere. There are even one of the signature balconies with a view of the waterfall. A key special point to this hotel is being able to see the waterfall from every room. They have the local Chronogram Magazine available to bring back to your room too.

The Room-

We were on a ground floor, a deluxe double queen room. They carried the special touches into the hotel rooms. The toilet paper was folded into a flower. We were walking around the room and kept hearing little birds. The hotel staff had set a sound machine to nature sounds before we arrived. I found this little touch very impressive. as it shows the hotel staff cares. The room seemed as if they were bringing elements of nature into a modern, clean design creating a perfect balance.

Beds are extremely important because they say a lot about the hotel. First and foremost, both beds were very clean. The top blanket was like a velvet cloud. The sheets were not scratchy and the pillows just right. The mattress didn’t take getting used to at all. In fact, my husband snores louder than a freight train barreling through a tunnel all night long. He barely snored. We also really loved the sound machine and kept that on too.

Choosing a full night away has its benefits too. No cats biting at the toes. The dog isn’t chasing rabbits in her sleep. No small ninja child kicking and punching all night long. There are no toys that randomly say “hug me” or make a random farm sound when rolling over and no crunching of stray cheerios.

As mentioned before, all the rooms open up to a balcony that overlooks the waterfall. It changes color at night and every part of the day it has a different look. My husband enjoyed drinking his complimentary hotel room coffee in the morning from the bistro table on the balcony. I told him that it looked as if he was having a Folgers moment.

The Bathroom-

They covered the basics on every type of hotel sample you could need. There was even a little care kit with a couple of q tips. The best part is the floors have radiant heating and there is a heater up above too. My feet were very happy. The shower is very large. I had a spa experience right in my own hotel room. The bathrooms were also very clean. There is a separate sink next to the bathroom across from a large closest.

The Tavern-

We were immediately greeted by the hostess and asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor dining. If you pick outdoor dining, you guessed it, views of the waterfall. However, even where we sat inside, we could still see a little bit of the falls.

The dining room itself doesn’t feel crowded at all. The main room is expansive and nicely decorated. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

The Food-

The food the chef prepared was amazing. We started with rosemary, warm bread. It’s light and has just the right amount of rosemary without being overpowering.

The appetizer was a tofu with a sweet glaze and crunchy outside shell topped with a spicy slaw. My husband has never eaten tofu in his life. He is a meat and potatoes type of man. However, he loved it. He ate almost all his tofu! Surprisingly filling. So beware because a lot more is to come.

Dinner, Brian had the pork chop which had a nice light taste. It is paired with a potato and lentil side and asparagus.

I had the pan-seared sea bass with bacon, white beans, onion, and pepper. Very delicate but packed with flavors.

Desert we shared the apple pizza and raspberry cheesecake. Both equally amazing. The apple pizza is literally an apple pie on a pizza dough topped with the famous scoop of vanilla ice-cream. The cheesecake has fresh raspberries in the center and a chocolate bottom crust. It’s very light and fluffy and topped with a strawberry garnish and sits in swirls of chocolate.

We didn’t have drinks until later on after our walk. However, there is a bar too. Just remember that NY State law now mandates that you eat food with your drinks. Luckily, the chef makes roasted chickpeas for a dollar. The bar is very warm and inviting with an old-world, rustic charm. The drinks were well made. One key takeaway to the Tavern is that my husband didn’t describe anything as “not bad.” This is a major thumbs up for them.

Things to do Outside the Hotel-

We went for our overnight on a Monday because of HITS on the Hudson, Weekends become crowded. So we picked a more quiet time to come. We decided that our fun event was walking the streets of Saugerties. Not much was open during this time. However, the architecture, history and unique touches were enough for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour. Next time I’m opting for a massage. Savor Spa is within walking distance of the hotel front-desk.

The hotel gives other wonderful suggestions too such as OPUS 40, a sculpture garden or you can go take a romantic hike. There is plenty to do either within walking distance or a short drive from the hotel.

Final Thoughts-

Diamond Mills is the perfect parent getaway. The staff is friendly, the hotel is lovely and the food is on point. What are you waiting for, go have an adventure without the children! We did and are excited about our next parent getaway!
