How do you prepare for back to school when you home school? A lot of home schooled children are year around learner’s like us. However, there are some great tips to “go back to”. It’s like a reevaluate/reset.

This post contains Amazon affiliate links and I receive a small portion if you purchase through my links.

Reorganize or Start a Busy Bag-

This is for learning on the go since a lot of homeschooling is done on the go. We spend ninety percent of our day out of our classroom at home. Mine is geared toward pre-k/k. However, it can be modified to fit pretty much any age. Even grown-ups can benefit from a busy bag.

The List-

Pocket dry Erase Sheets

-Worksheets inside pockets (we prefer create your own. I was told a teacher to use a highlighter to write out numbers, shapes and ABCs instead of following the dots. It’s easier for them to learn.)

Highlighter-

-Erasable Markers-

Notebook-

-Pencil depending on age, learning to write, the golf pencils are awesome

-A cheap camera (the only thing I would recommend not on Amazon is the SD cards-Go to B H Photo for those-a lot better quality)

-Snacks and water

-The tablet if they have one

-Travel games

Headphones because do you want to listen to their apps in the car? Picture Baby shark on repeat or Let it Go. You can’t just let it go.

-clipboard

-some books. We love seek and find books. However, the skies the limit here.

Prepare Your Classroom

Part of Our Little Classroom

Get in order things you will need for the school year. Curriculum. Lesson plans if you use them. Charts. Calendar. Posters. Etc.

We use a free program called Easy Peasy which is Christian Based and supplement with other material. There are a lot more options as they get older with this program.

-You can still dress your child up and give them a chalk board. Create that yearly milestone. We opted for a banner on the wall courtesy Peppa Pig.

Here are Some items that either some mom’s must have or just sound cool. I’m not a laminator type of person spending hours at night by the light of moon highlighting sheet after sheet … However, some mom’s are.

A Laminator-

Printer- Highly recommend finding a printer with the insta-ink. If you are like me, you will simply run out of ink and then be out of luck until you get more or have to cart everyone to the local copy store or library. Insta-ink printers save you the headache by putting you on an ink subscription where it detects when you need ink. Depending on level you pick, you get so many prints a month and receive ink before you run out of it.

Touch Screen Computer- Do your research on Amazon. There are so many. However, here is one example. I have personally used Dell and HP. However, this caught my eye.

Get ready for Extracurricular Activities-

Transitioning from summer activities to fall activities. Home school co-ops in area, meetup groups and activities, sports, art, music, dance, cooking classes, STEM, library programs etc. Remember, Facebook is often a good source for finding groups locally or beyond. We are starting an old-school pen pal program this week!

The skies the limit with homeschool!

Nature Bag-

Get a bag or reorganize a bag with nature tools in it. Binoculars, notebook, sketch pad (this kind is great for the fellow left handed crew), crayons (my pick here is great for the younger set), pencil, camera, net, identification guide … If you want, a water proof camera is also and option!

Conclusion-

There is a lot of prep even for year around learner’s!  Every family will be different. However, this should give some ideas. What are some of your must haves in your home school classroom? Welcome back to school! Well, home school that is.
