explore-these-hudson-river-locations

Now that warm weather is here and Spring is starting to make an appearance after a long winter’s nap, we wanted to show you the new and improved list of spots along the Hudson River to explore.

Bard Rock at Vanderbilt Estates

The road down to Bard Rock is currently closed. If you park in the lot and proceed to walk, be careful of cars, and once you reach the closed sign, there is an option to take a nice soft path to the left. At Bard Rock, there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the Hudson River. Remember, no swimming.

What is Bard Rock?

It’s best described on the NPS.GOV website. Below is an excerpt and you can read the full article (which is very interesting) on the website.

Hudson River

Persistent financial difficulties prevented Bard from pursuing such ambitious plans. Instead, he focused on the agricultural value of the property, establishing a farm and an orchard of several hundred apple trees. In 1768 he attempted to sell Hyde Park, advertising it as a good source of timber, arable fields, and convenient water transport. Of three river landings, the best was “a large flat rock, which forms a natural wharf” capable of accommodating large sloops. Known as Bard Rock, it was located near the farm at the north end of the property. Although Bard ultimately decided against selling Hyde Park, over the next three decades financial necessity required piecemeal sales of nearly half of the original 3,600 acres.

Croton Point Park, Croton NY

Mostly all road and wide path walking, this is an awesome place to explore for the whole family. We ignored AllTrails.com and made our own adventure. The only part that was hard to navigate, was a small section of beach. As the weather becomes warmer, the brush will grow in and make it hard to enter. There are also camping spots and a hall for rent. We found a random room under a hill and would love to find out the history of what that is … I will post an update. Stroller-friendly for the most part besides the beach and grassy stretch of field along the river. Great little playground. We started our hike by parking at the ball field and walked over the giant hill that used to be a garbage dump. No, it doesn’t smell.

*Side note-make sure you completely put out your fires even in the rings. We were hiking with a firefighter and got to watch him, the fire chief, tanker truck, and a police officer respond. It’s currently very dry and even a smoldering fire can catch surrounding areas outside the ring. Just be mindful.

Croton Point

Cohotate Preserve Trail, Rogers Island Game Management-Hudson NY.

This hike doesn’t have much of a “wow” factor. It is moderate because of the incline. However, I saw people of all ages and abilities hiking here. There is also a pond to walk around. No toe-dipping. But, if you complete the loop, start going left down the hill. There is a small area to stop and dip your toes in the Hudson. However, as I was heading down to the beach, I told my daughter to keep a distance between her and the child playing on the big tree. When we got down there, no one was there. So if you want to avoid ghosts, keep walking. The trail will spur downhill to the left. Follow it down, and there is a great place to dip the toes, take a break and enjoy the scenery.

THREE HUDSON VALLEY HIKES WITH ODD VIBES

Arden Point, Garrison NY

It is not a hard hike unless, like us, you lose the trail and end up on a narrow trail skirting a drop to the Hudson. Avoid all this and when crossing the trail tracks on right. Just stay to the left and there is a nice spot to enjoy the water.

along the river

Bonus video of Arden Point and Pelton Pond!

Esopus Meadows, Preserve, Ulster Park

This is super easy if staying right on the Hudson River. It’s also a short hike, coming in under a mile. However, there are several spots to sit and enjoy the water. Just don’t leave anything behind soaking in the beauty. Abby left Baby Rainbow Otter. We went all the way home only to have to turn around and go all the way back. Bonus, for leaving on my stove! So don’t leave anything behind. In case you were wondering, the otter was found and the house didn’t burn to the ground.

Another option is to go through the woods and access another water spot. It’s an interactive forest. This means that there are little plaques everywhere explaining the trees in the area.

There is a porta-a-potty at this location. Not sure if it is open as we strongly dislike them. Pee before you go.

Hudson River

Quiet Cove Park, Poughkeepsie is a nice relaxing spot. (seasonal)

There are places with chairs to sit and enjoy the Hudson. There is also a boat launch.  Keep dogs leashed. They strongly enforce it at this location. Trust me. We recommend shoes at this location.

Little Stony Point in Cold Spring NY

is another awesome place that many people know about. So this sport is not much of a secret. There is a cave (watch for glass) and several places to enjoy the water. We also found an amazing overlook where you can see for miles on a clear day. Watch the rocks. When we went to the viewpoint, we were even with some birds soaring and it felt amazing.

Tivoli Bays

If you head all the way down Cruger Island Rd in Red Hook NY, you will come to a couple small parking spots. Also, if you drive slowly, there is another lot at the end of the path to the right. There is a small spot to hide in a little cove at the end of the further parking destination. However, if you walk straight in at the end of the road, it is like another world. Be aware during high tide, the trail disappears. We have waded through it and don’t advise it. So travel at your own risk.

Hudson River

Once at the train tracks, if you carefully cross them, there are a whole bunch of extra trails. Some lead right to the Hudson River!

There are other trails throughout the area and a lot of kayakers use this area. Be careful. We got lost in the trail system the first time we were hiking in the woods.

Madam Brett Park, Beacon NY

I use GPS to find the park because even though we have walked here a million times, I still occasionally get turned around. However, you will know you are there if you go through the tunnel and are greeted with apocalyptic type buildings to your right.

beacon

You can go left or right. Left takes you to the waterfall. However, for connecting to the other two parks, people want to head right over the bridge with the water on the left and the falling down buildings to your right.

Eventually, you will see a turnoff. We love doing this offshoot because it takes you through the woods to a viewing platform of the marsh. Then just continue the horseshoe back to the main trail and walk on.

Hudson River

Soon the train tracks can be spotted on the left. Keep walking and head to your right. This now takes you out of Madam Brett Park and you can pick where you head next. At this point, you might just want to turn around.

SEE MOM’S HILARIOUS ACCOUNT OF FALLING IN MUD HERE. This trail has since been blocked off by the park

Dennings Point, Beacon NY

They have been doing construction at this location. This was our last picture of the old factory buildings.

hiking beacon ny

We enjoy finding a trail on the right, that takes you down to the Hudson River. However, it can be steep and footing, not the safest. If you continue, on the main path, you will find Dennings Point. We have run into homeless down on the beach. So just beware of your surroundings.

I am not sure if you can still loop around as there are signs for habitat redevelopment. However, you can always trace your footstep back to where you started.

On this trip, we stopped at the offshoot trail and turned around going back to Madam Brett. When we completed this trip, it was around three miles total. However, you can make it longer and take the Fjord trail on the left. This trail will take you to Long Dock Park.

Long Dock Park, Beacon NY

Again easy trails. A few places to sit and look at the Hudson River. Be aware of pollution. We have seen a lot at this park. There are picnic benches to stop and take a rest as well as a few other spots along the way. After all, is said and done, retrace your steps back to the car.

Hiking Beacon NY
  • Food for thought. Dennings Point, Madam Brett and Long Dock all connect. You can literally spend a whole day exploring!

Kingston Point Rail Trail

We parked in a small lot beyond the Kingston waterfront district on the righthand side of the road. I didn’t see any signs and assume it was alright to park there. If anyone has a better suggestion for parking, let us know! We have also parked down by the waterfront district and picked up a section of the trail that way.

kingston point rail trail

This trail is just over a mile and ends or begins at Kingston Point Rotary Park. It’s actually part of a whole system of greenline trails in Kingston. When you are in the park, there is a network of trails to ramble on. However, we just followed the All Trails App.

VIDEO OF KINGSTON POINT RAIL TRAIL!

The views of the Hudson River are beautiful and extremely peaceful. When in the park, there is an interesting flying disc sign, and I am so happy we weren’t hit by a flying disc. Abby also found a door and had to knock on it. She knocks on all doors.

SEE THIS DOOR SHE KNOCKED ON IN WOODS!

kingston point rail trail
kingston rail trail

There are old train tracks that are followed for most of the walk. Don’t go barefoot. If you get a splinter from old rail tracks, it can cause a very serious infection. Your feet will also be black from the tar. Abby Girl often goes shoeless and her one foot was thick with tar by the time we returned to the car.

kingston point rail trail

Lots of places to go and enjoy the Hudson. Our four-legged friend also enjoyed the walk. It is friendly for overweight, senior dogs.

When is all done, if you can skip the picnic, go into the River Front District for a wide variety of food to pick from. We like to head over the bridge and grab an ice cream.

If you want to walk more, park the car and pay the meter and stroll the paved path that goes through the district along the river. Stop at the riverfront museum and take a picture at the cutouts or look at the old boat.

Black Creek Preserve, Esopus

Yes, if you hike over the bridge and then through the woods and down the mountain … You will eventually find the Hudson River. It’s more of an easy/moderate hike. It’s also the spot where Abby needed to go potty and next thing I saw was a swarm of bees that looked like a big, black cloud. I dove into the water with my child and made it out with only one bee sting. Being allergic, that almost was a very bad day. So stay on the trail. But, once you get to the Hudson, you will enjoy the water.

Hudson River

Kowawese Unique Area New Windsor NY

Just south of Newburgh, AKA the Burgh, is this lovely gem. We have yet to even explore it all. However, I did find an arrowhead here. We went back and combed the beach and didn’t find any more. There is plenty of section to walk along the Hudson River. You can even do a loop through the woods. We are yet to explore the park to the right.

Hudson River

Tips:

Watch for Cowheads

Wear water shoes

No swimming. Just toe dipping

Sunscreen and snacks are probably a must

Change of clothes required when kids get wet

Watch for trash and glass. People have been a lot ruder with polluting lately on trails.

Final Thoughts-

Honestly, there are even more spots along the Hudson River to explore. However, I am exhausted and I personally think this is a fairly hefty list to get any explorers started. If you go to any of our spots listed, make sure to tag Adventures of Abby Girl on social media for a chance to be featured!

how-to-be-a-christian-adventurer

Adventures of Abby Girl is a Christian Adventurer. We go into the world having all these new experiences, traveling all kinds of places and try new products. The awesome aspect of being a Christian is showing God’s love wherever we go and radiate a Christian attitude. It doesn’t mean as we adventure, we chase down people with tracks and Bibles and ask if they know Jesus. No. It’s an attitude and there are steps to take. So read what we do below and you too can be a Christian Adventurer just like Abby Girl.

Have a Positive Attitude on Adventures-

It’s easy to just start talking about all the bad when approaching people willing to listen. However, instead, be radiating and positive. Smile and say hello. Did you know a simple smile could change someone’s day and so can a frown or even blank stare? There is even a difference between a false smile and a real smile. So on those adventures, show that true smile and shed some of that positive, radiating Christian Spirit.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32 NIV

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16 NIV

Help those in need-

While adventuring throughout the world, you might encounter someone in need. It might be something as simple as a dropped item on the trail or someone who doesn’t have enough money in front of you on the checkout line. It could even be holding a door for someone. Whatever, it is, be ready to help those in need. On the trails, we have found ourselves helping several people find their way or helping by giving trail suggestions or warning of obstacles up ahead. You never know the ripple effect it can have to help someone. Have you ever heard of “paying it forward?”

But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?

1 John 3:17

Read Kindness on the Mountain. An account with wonderful people on the trail.

Control Your Tongue on Adventures-

Gossiping, swearing, negative speech, screaming (as in at your kid or even to yourself), self-praise, etc., should try to be avoided. Obviously, it in some respect will happen at some point. Everyone has sinned. All people can do is try and continue to better themselves. Remember God is the Potter and we are the clay. But as much as a person can, controlling the tongue on adventures will show people a person who is truly trying to walk the walk and talk the talk.

Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

Psalm 34:12-14
christian adventurer

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

James 1:26 ESV

Have Humility and Be Willing to Learn on Adventures-

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a]who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:1-30 ESV

Having a humble heart is important. No one person should be better than the next. We were on an adventure once where they brought in a bunch of bloggers in similar fields to cover the same place. The woman next to me turns to the person next to us and declares, “I’m a mommy expert” in a very no it all pious voice. No one is truly an expert in anything as there is always something new to learn.

So on adventures, open up not only your mind but your heart and be prepared to learn something new. When a person does this, the adventure will be a whole other level of awesome. Did you know that even my own child, I have learned so much from her? It’s two-fold on adventures. Even though she is only 5, we are still able to both learn and grow from each other. It is truly amazing. Therefore, parents, I urge you to take a step back when adventuring with your child. Listen to them with both ears and watch them and you too will grow.

Be Prepared

When a door opens on adventures, be prepared to talk about God. Don’t be afraid. If the opportunity happens, go for it and talk from your heart all about God’s love and your faith. It might not even just be non-believers you run into. My daughter and I struck up a random conversation today at a store and the woman asked me to meet her outside to talk further. I was surprised when I was talking face to face with a Pastor. Even talking amongst each other, you never know who is listening. So be prepared. Who knows what door will open or whose life you might change all from being prepared.

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:6-8 NIV
light

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[a] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 ESV

You Can Do Amazing Things-Be That Adventurer

So many times, people utter words such as “I can’t do that” or “I really shouldn’t.” Stop. There is a verse Adventures of Abby Girl carries with them throughout life and on every adventure. It’s even stated on our Instagram description.

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Phil. 4:13 ESV

Do you know the crazy things we have done over here at Adventures of Abby Girl HQ? Wandered over 700 miles over all types of crazy terrain. Ate crickets. Danced in the rain. Abby Girl horseback rides in English, Western, and Vault. Even after falling off a horse on a jump, she got up and brushed herself off. She got right back on that horse. Why? She can do all things through Christ.

Another example, Abby Girl has a severe speech delay. It’s believed all the times she was taken to the doctor for clogged ears as a baby and toddler that it was impeding her hearing well. The reason she didn’t talk much until almost four was that she couldn’t hear. But, it never stopped her. In fact, she makes TikTok videos and talks fearlessly. She doesn’t let her handicap get in her way. Again, why? Well, she can do all things through Christ because he gives her strength. When a person adopts this attitude on adventures, it will radiate onto others and have a positive effect.

Watch the YouTube video of Abby preaching in the woods

Don’t Rush the Adventures-

God wants people to enjoy their adventures. Take everything in around you. Be present and in the moment. There was a time where we completed 7 hikes in a half a day. It was fun. However, how much did we really get to enjoy it or see everything? That last mile, we were shoeless and power hiking through woods at dusk with bear bells dangling. Exciting … yes. But, not that enjoyable. So take your time. Make the most out of each adventure God has planned for you.

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Col. 4:5-6 NIV

Final Thoughts-

Being a Christian Adventurer is amazing. With a few simple steps, any person can be one too. It opens doors, impacts others in a positive light, and is a great way to show God’s love and an amazing Christian spirit. So what are you waiting for? Go adventure on like Adventures of Abby Girl. feathered-friends-at-bird-sanctuary

Adventures of Abby Girl must be on a bird sanctuary kick recently. Last week, readers got to find out about an awesome bird sanctuary in Sherman Connecticut. This week we found one in Stanfordville, NY! Both a part of the Audubon Society.

Buttercup Nature Preserve Location-

It is actually on 82 on the right-hand side heading towards Pine Plains and also by turning off 82 onto Mountain Road. We decided to try the Mountain Road entrance. Pay attention as the entrance looks like a long dirt road and easy to miss.

run

Emerging From Winter Be Like …

The Trail-

We decided to go with the AllTrails suggestion of a three-mile blue trail and red trail loop. Download the map if you can and pay attention. There are a lot of offshoot trails. Some will make your walk shorter. You can also opt for an out-and-back experience. However, most of the trails are wide and flat. Especially the main trails. Some have gentle rolling hills through fields. Only one trail we went on had a lot of roots and rocks and was more narrow than the other trails.

Bird Sanctuary

Mud-

It’s mud season. So be mindful of this as you walk the trails. Wear good hiking boots or sneakers you don’t care if they get covered in mud.

Animals-

The birds are already nesting in some of the boxes you will encounter on the trail. Do not bother them. Also, we saw lots of geese in the ponds. It was so relaxing hearing all the birds chirping in the trees. Abby Girl found it annoying toward the end of the hike. However, I think it was peaceful.

bird sanctuary

We didn’t see any other wildlife on this trip. Well, maybe Abby when she climbed up in a fallen tree and howled at people walking by us.

The People-

It wasn’t crowded at all when we arrived. Many of the people we encountered were senior citizens and all very nice. It was like being surrounded by grandparents. It was easy to maintain distance on the trails if you decide to not mask up. Some wore masks and others did not. We also saw a few people walking their dogs.

Abby Girl Stuck in Bush at Preserve on TikTok

bird sanctuary

Water-

There is a lot of lowland areas, streams, ponds etc. Take note when the bugs start coming out that I would imagine you will need bug spray.

bird sanctuary

Make the Trail A Lot Longer-

Still, want to hike farther? You will get to a point where a trail shoots off and crosses 82 and goes into another half of the sanctuary. We completed this a while ago and it was much hills on this side of the road. However, the sweeping view is breathtaking and worth it even if you just do the climb up the big hill.

Video Here

Rest Spots

There are plenty of spots to stop and take a rest. We ate our lunch by a babbling brook with views of the fields in front of us.

YOUTUBE VIDEO! ALL of WEEK THREE FLEET FEET CHALLENGE INCLUDING FOOTAGE OF SANCTUARY!

Bonus Sanctuary!

Are you in Ulster County or traveling there soon? Well, we wrote a piece a while back on our Hudson Valley Parent blog about another bird sanctuary. That piece is below.

The Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge in Ulster County, is an amazing place for everyone to visit.

When we first arrived, I was debating on staying because the parking lot was fairly full. We are trying to hike socially isolated. However, I’m glad we gave it a try. We only passed a couple of people the whole time we were there!

Shawangunk Grasslands

The Terrain-

The terrain is flat. It’s miles of fields with wide paths that go through them. The view of the Gunks in the distance is amazing set against the waving fields and sounds of nature. It’s approved for even the youngest walker. My friend went a day before us and used a stroller for three miles. She said it was difficult, but she managed. I would recommend carrying non-walkers in a child carrier. There are sections that are muddy. Wear appropriate shoes.

Shawangunk Grasslands Wildlife Refuge

Cool Stuff to do there-

Watch the birds and insects from bird blinds. I was a little hesitant to sit in one because I wasn’t sure who had sat in it before me with the Covid germ situation. I just opened all the windows and used the hand-sanitizer back at the car. It would have been more ideal to carry it on me.  There is also an observation deck at the beginning of the walk. Bring the fishing pole for catch and release fishing. Take a pamphlet at the start and see how many birds your family can identify on your walk.

Shawangunk Grasslands Wildlife Refuge

Other Key Facts-

The bathrooms are currently closed and there is no water. So plan accordingly.

  • Check the website to make sure they are open.
  • No dogs are permitted.
  • Stay on the trail.
  • Carry out what you carried in
  • Plan accordingly because wandering in these vast fields takes time. Before you know it, you have wandered a couple miles!

The Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge is such a peaceful place for families to go and relax. Go see for yourself.

Final thoughts on our recent visit-

This sanctuary was so peaceful. Perhaps it’s because spring is arriving. But, it was so nice to take a break from some of the crazy hikes and just stroll. We recommend this trail to anyone looking for a very peaceful, relaxing hike. If you go on the website, you can download a bird identification guide.

family-friendly-connecticut-deer-pond-farm

Family-Friendly Connecticut Deer Pond Farm in Sherman, is great for everyone! It’s part of the Connecticut Audobon Society. There are so many trails to explore, ponds, wildlife and it’s so well-maintained.

The Trails-

Use all AllTrails or get a map at the kiosk. We did the big loop which was just about three miles and had to follow our GPS closely. The trails were marked, however, with all the offshoot trails, it is easy to become turned around. This was especially true on the outskirts of the big field. The trail went about three different directions!

Just taking the trail to the two ponds was maybe a half-mile if that from the car. So for a short walk to the field and ponds, this is ideal. In fact, we stopped at the ponds for a bit and then had pretend-pizza time at the field. Abby also completed her victory run here for the Springtastic, Bombastic challenge through Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie. This is a great place to get the energy out too as Abby Girl puts it.

PIZZA VIDEO ON TIKTOK!

There are some ups and downs. Also when we went there was still some ice and lots of mud. Lots and lots of mud that Abby slipped in and well, the only shirt she had was the dog’s sweater that she enjoys wearing from time to time. So watch your footing and bring extra clothes.

Scavenger hunt At Deer Pond!

There is a two-sided scavenger hunt that you can pick up at the kiosk. One side is a lot easier. But, it’s so wonderful that they do this for whoever wants something to do while on the trails. It kept my very hyper child, engaged more than normal and she loved finding things on the map. Some will be easier to find once spring comes around and everything starts to bloom.

Trail Maintenance-

We were stopped by two lovely trail volunteers that took the time to stop and ask us how the trail conditions were. They explained that they help maintain the trails and I explained that they looked really good. I didn’t even see any trail trash or dog poop. We saw coyote poop. But that was it. (no dogs are allowed, but we did see people breaking the rules.)

ct audubon society

Scenery and wildlife-

The scenery changed several times. We didn’t see and wildlife or birds on this trip. However, in the spring, we will return and I bet it will be a different experience. Well, my child claims to have seen an invisible frog …

Getting There-

It looked like a residential driveway and I drove right by it the first time. However, overall, it is fairly easy to find. We went during the week and there really weren’t many people on the trails. We went fairly far without seeing anyone. In fact, we even took a break and filmed this lovely piece for Reels.

Finally thoughts-

We will definitely adventure back here again. The distance can be modified to fit how far you want to walk and is suitable for all ages. They have events coming up too and you can also donate to them on their website. We are very pleased that we found this place and got to add it to our adventures. So take the flock and go see this family-friendly Connecticut destination.

five-must-do-homeschool-morning-tasks

There are must-do homeschool morning tasks that Abby girl tries to complete before starting the adventure of the day.

Morning snuggles

Morning snuggles is the first half hour of day when we first wake-up. It’s a time to be present and unplugged where we just snuggle and watch a television show of her choice. It’s a great time to just relax before the madness of the day begins.

Morning Calendar-

We have a pocket calendar on the wall. Each day we discuss the date and then count up all the numbers. So if it’s the fifth, we count 1,2,3,4,5. We also include the month, year, season, days of week (today, yesterday, tomorrow) and the weather.

TIP- Try fun songs about different parts of the calendar to help with memorization and engagement. Sadly, my child does not like children’s songs and Ozzy hasn’t released a days of the week song yet …

Animal of the day-

We have two bins that have books on animals. I ask my child to randomly pick a book and animal without looking. We read about that animal and then she has to write the name of it in her notebook and create a picture. Usually, I have her include the habitat in the picture too.

Suggestion- Abby Girl loves animals. So that is what is in our bin. However, you can gather books on whatever your child’s interest currently and do the same thing. You can also switch up the books throughout the school year.

homeschool tips

Daily Prayer and Pledge-

There is an American Flag hanging in our classroom. So each day, the hand goes over the heart and she recites the pledge with me. I want to maintain some of the more old fasshioned schooling principles and teach her a respect for her country.

Daily prayer is also important. We have our on prayer that we would like to share with everyone. Click on it for a link to the free printable!

morning routine
Click for free printable!

Discuss Our Adventures for the day-

We check our secondary calendar to figure out if and what is happening that day. This could be meetup, extra curricular activity, special event. Beyond that if we are hiking that day, we plan out where we are going and what we will need on that hike. This is key for teaching accountability.

We also decide where or not to bring the dog. If you do bring your pooch, be mindful of their ability too. Our dog is twelve and a mile is becoming difficult for her.

Final Thoughts on Morning Homeschool Tasks!-

Obviously, the other things fit in here too like brushing hair, teeth, planning out wardrobe for the day and breakfast (sometimes, as we often eat on the fly at the local deli.) Brushing hair is usually a battle and doesn’t always happen.

However, the five tasks above are a constant. It gives children a level of predictability and routine which is important for them as they grow. It gives us a great foundation before Abby Girl hits whatever adventures the day might bring whether planned or impromptu. Do you have a must have morning homeschool task? Tell us in the comments.

Follow us on all our other platforms for more awesome tips, products, cool places to travel, and all our random moments as we adventure on!
